Professor John McGrath

Professor John McGrath is the academic head of St John’s Institute of Dermatology within King’s College of London (KCL) where he holds the Mary Dunhill Chair in Cutaneous Medicine. He leads the Genetic Skin Disease Group at KCL and his research focuses on characterising the genetic basis of inherited skin diseases and developing new treatments for patients, including gene and cell based therapies. He graduated at Guy’s Hospital in London and trained in dermatology at St John’s before undertaking post-doctoral studies in Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He has run his own research group in the UK since 1996, discovering new genes for genetic skin disorders and undertaking clinical trials of novel treatments.
